Ókè, Deus da montanha na cultura Iorubá, guardava um segredo: de que matéria ele, o próprio Deus, era constituído? Somente Ogum, orixá das ferramentas, poderia desvendar o mistério.

Por muito tempo, entre Ókè e Ogum, a natureza das pedras e dos metais, dos métodos para se quebrar as rochas, se manteve em segredo. Ailton Krenak nos explica, “(…) meu pai, meu avô, meus primos, olham aquela montanha e veem o humor da montanha e veem se ela está triste, feliz ou ameaçadora, e fazem cerimônia para a montanha, cantam para ela, cantam para o rio (…)”. Assim, seguimos com a mesma possibilidade.

Para que saber os segredos da montanha? Queremos, nós, descobrir o segredo que só Ogum detém? Entre o Deus da montanha e o Deus da metalurgia, restou-nos um ensinamento. Ogum, partilhando de tanta informação, passou a dar nome às coisas, pronunciar para reconhecê-las. A humanidade, então, poderia contemplá-las, cumprimentá-las, louvá-las, sem mexer com elas.

Ókè, the God of the mountain in Iorubá culture, kept a secret: what material was he, the God himself, made of? Only Ogum, the deity of tools, could unravel the mystery. 

For a long time, between Ókè and Ogum, the nature of stones and metals, the methods for breaking rocks, remained a secret. Ailton Krenak explains, “(…) my father, my grandfather, my cousins, they look at that mountain and see the mountain’s mood, whether it’s sad, happy, or threatening, and they make a ceremony for the mountain, they sing to it, they sing to the river (…)”. Therefore, we continue with the same possibility. 

Why do we need to know the secrets of the mountain? Do we want to discover the secret that only Ogum holds? Between the God of the mountain and the God of metallurgy, remains a lesson for us. Ogum, by sharing so much information, started to name things, pronounce them in order to recognize them. Humanity, then, could contemplate them, greet them, praise them, without disturbing them.
