A exposição “ARTE BRASILEIRA: a coleção do MAP na Casa Fiat de Cultura” promove o encontro entre dois dos principais equipamentos culturais da cidade de Belo Horizonte.

Do Museu de Arte da Pampulha, trouxemos sua preciosa coleção, que atravessa a arte brasileira entre os séculos XX e XXI. Assim, contamos histórias antigas, novas e futuras, buscando sedimentar a reflexão sobre protagonismos diversos, incluindo artistas modernos e contemporâneos presentes na coleção, que pela primeira vez serão exibidos.

De outro modo, vamos ao encontro da população que se relaciona com o Conjunto Moderno da Pampulha, marco da arquitetura brasileira e mundial, bem como seu entorno, no lazer, no descanso, na contemplação, no desejo do retrato.

Desta maneira, indicamos percursos que vão do projeto de criação do complexo de Niemeyer, ao modo como o MAP atuou na promoção de residências, editais, salões e exposições coletivas e individuais que marcaram a história da arte no Brasil. 

Para contar essa história múltipla e diversa, recorremos aos itãs iorubás que se relacionam à presença da montanha (Òkè) na criação cosmogônica do mundo. Das histórias da montanha, retiramos os quatro elementos: terra, água, fogo e ar. Assim, propomos uma proximidade entre tais elementos e as criações artísticas instalativas, ressaltando a presença da natureza como mote de muitas obras existentes no acervo do MAP.

Por outro lado, dada a relevância experimental de vanguarda do Museu, estimulamos outras incorporações. A atualidade de Aílton Krenak, Conceição Evaristo e Leda Maria Martins, cujo cerne do pensamento se origina em Minas Gerais, nos guia e constitui referências tão fundamentais quanto as dos pensadores de vanguarda que acompanhavam Juscelino Kubitschek no momento de criação da Pampulha. Tal gesto nos faz repensar o presente e convidar artistas como Sônia Gomes e o coletivo Retratistas do Morro, que elevam a centralidade de Minas Gerais no cenário artístico brasileiro hoje, mas ainda não fazem parte do acervo MAP.

Realizar esta exposição junto à Casa Fiat de Cultura, localizada em um prédio modernista, presente em uma paisagem ícone de Belo Horizonte e que tem em sua trajetória mostras de importantes coleções do Brasil e do mundo, representa uma valorosa união e uma oportunidade de revisar a história e recontá-la sob o signo da mudança. Não há história que não mereça ajuste, destaque e reparação, projetando, no futuro, o olhar do agora.

The exhibition “BRAZILIAN ART: The MAP Collection at Casa Fiat de Cultura” brings together two of the main cultural institutions in the city of Belo Horizonte.

From the Pampulha’s Art Museum, we have brought its precious collection, which goes through Brazilian art from the 20th to the 21st century. In doing so, we tell past, present, and future stories, seeking to consolidate reflection on different protagonists, including modern and contemporary artists present in the collection, who will be exhibited for the first time.

On the other hand, we encounter the population that interacts with the Pampulha’s Modern Complex, a landmark in Brazilian and world architecture, as well as its surroundings, in leisure, rest, contemplation and desire for a portrait.

In this way, we highlight pathways that range from the creation of Niemeyer’s complex to how the MAP has promoted residencies, calls for submissions, salons, and collective and individual exhibitions that have marked the history of art in Brazil.

To tell this multiple and diverse story, we turn to the Yoruba itãs that relate to the presence of the mountain (Òkè) in the cosmogonic creation of the world. From the mountain stories, we extract the four elements: earth, water, fire, and air. Thus, we propose a connection between these elements and the installative artistic creations, emphasizing the presence of nature as the theme of many works in the MAP’s collection.

On the other hand, given the experimental avant-garde relevance of the Museum, we encourage other incorporations. The contemporary contributions of Aílton Krenak, Conceição Evaristo, and Leda Maria Martins, whose core thoughts originate in Minas Gerais, guide us and constitute references as fundamental as those of the avant-garde thinkers who accompanied Juscelino Kubitschek at the time of Pampulha’s creation. This gesture makes us rethink the present and invite artists like Sônia Gomes and the Retratistas do Morro collective, who elevate the centrality of Minas Gerais in today’s Brazilian artistic scene but are not yet part of the MAP’s collection.

Holding this exhibition at Casa Fiat de Cultura, located in a modernist building, present in an iconic landscape of Belo Horizonte, which has in its history displays of important collections from Brazil and the world, represents a valuable union and an opportunity to review history and retell it under the sign of change. There is no story that does not deserve adjustment, highlighting and repair, projecting the perspective of the present into the future.
